EU - The Commission Plans to Identify Resorcinol as a SVHC
The EU Commission plans to identify resorcinol as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) by adding it to the Candidate List because of its endocrine disrupting properties whose effects to human health give rise to an equivalent level of concern according to Article 57(f) to REACH Regulation.
The dossier was first submitted by France in early 2020. However, the Member State Committee (MSC) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) did not reach an unanimous agreement identifying resorcinol as a SVHC. ECHA referred the MSC opinion to the Commission for a decision.
The Commission notified World Trade Organization (WTO) with a draft regulation on June 1 planning to identify resorcinol as a SVHC. The proposed date of adoption would be in the 4th quarter of this year.
Final comment date: July 31, 2021
