IEC 60335-1/A2: 2016 (European deviation not available yet)

The standard deals with the safety of electrical appliance for household and similar purposes, general requirements.

The major changes are: (minor changes are not listed)

Class III symbol is not necessary for appliances operated only by batteries. (7.1)

Instructions specified in clause 7 shall appear together in front part or may be supplied with the appliance separated. In addition, instructions shall also be available in an alternative format. (7.12.9)

Specified height requirement of words (7.14)

For visibly glowing heating elements that disconnected by a single switching action, full disconnection as specified in IEC 61058 shall be provided. (8.1.3)

Modified leakage current test method (13.2)

Modified electronic circuit test (19.11.3, 19.11.4.2)

Handles, knobs or similar small parts could result in choking hazards when loose. (22.12, figure 13)

Devices that operated by the user to stop the intended function of the appliance, shall be distinguished from other manual devices. (22.55)

Detachable power supply part shall be provided with the part of class III construction of the appliance. (22.56)

The UV-C radiation effect on non-metallic materials where applicable (22.57)

Switches, automatic controls, power supplies and the like in flexible cords not allowed. (24.2)

IEC 60335-2-2/AMD2: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric vacuum cleaners and water suction cleaning appliances for household and similar purposes.

Added requirements for ash vacuum cleaners. (7, 11, 19.105, 21.106, 22.102, 22.103, 30.2.101, 30.2.102)

Motorized cleaning head for water-suction cleaning symbol applicable for class III as well. (7.101)

Maximum temperatures rises for accessible external surfaces (11.8, Table 101)

Vacuum cleaners that stop automatically when there is a blockage are subject to inlet blocking test (19.4)

IEC 60335-2-7/AMD2: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric washing machines for household and similar use that are intended for washing clothes and textiles.

Added requirements in 7.12, user manual shall include detailed application or limits of the appliance.

Added requirements of mechanical hazards in 20.106 and 20.107 for appliances with a front opening door.

Modified 22.101 construction requirements.

Modified annex BB ageing test for elastomeric parts.

IEC 60335-2-9: /AMD2: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric portable appliances for household and similar purposes that have a cooking function such as baking, roasting and grilling.

For toasters it is not necessary for the heating element switching device to provide full disconnection.(8.1.3)

All types of appliance need to be tested for surface temperature. (11.1)

Modified normal heating test method for induction hot plates. (11.6)

Modified surface temperature measurement method for induction hotplates, induction wok hotplates and barbecues. (11.103)

Modified surface temperature measurement method for breadmakers, pop-corn maker and food dehydrators. (11.104)

Added induction hotplates and induction wok hotplates abnormal tests (19.107)

IEC 60335-2-13: /AMD1: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric deep fat fryer, frying pans and similar appliances for household and similar purposes.

Added the tests on handles of deep fat fryers. (22.12)

IEC 60335-2-14: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric kitchen machines for household and similar purposes.

Requirements for noodle maker with a mixing function have been introduced (3.1.9.116, 11.7.118, 19.103)

The definition of normal operation has been changed (3.1.9)

The method of carrying out the heating test has been changed. (11.7.1, 11.7.2, 11.7.3)

Requirements for appliances having a feed screw or auger have been introduced. (20.106)

IEC 60335-2-15: /AMD1: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric appliances for heating liquids for household and similar purposes.

The major changes in this new edition are: (minor changes are not listed)

Scope extension: appliances can have more than one function.

Coffee makers normal operation definition modified. (3.1.9.101)

Introduce more warning sentences for use in instruction manual. (7)

Introduce automatic coffee-makers input measurement. (10.1, 10.2)

Normal heating test methods modified. (11.2, 11.4, 11.7.104)

Coffee-makers overfilling test modified. (15.2)

Abnormal tests for kettles modified. (19.102)

Add abnormal cover tests for appliances with external surface providing a keep warm function.(19.106)

Add abnormal test for coffee-makers with decorative door. (19.107)

Add abnormal test for automatic coffee makers of the coffee bean type. (19.108)

Pressure requirement modified. (22.7)

Coffee-makers frothing nozzle or hot water nozzle construction requirements. (22.115)

IEC 60335-2-23: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric appliances for the care of skin or hair of persons or animals and intended for household and similar purposes.

Modified 7.12 to apply to all appliances, and not just to hairdryers.

Added new instructions in 7.12 for hair straighteners and curling irons.

Excluded detachable curler surfaces from temperature rise requirement in 11.8.

Energized drop test for handheld appliances modified. e.g. it should be supplied as in clause 11. (21.101)

Handles on curling irons and hair straightener shall be clearly identified. (22.13)

Hairdryers shall be fitted with a grid or similar protection means to limit the risk of hair being sucked into the air intake. (22.103)

Protective devices in fixed hand-dryers in order to comply with 19.1 and 19.3 shall not be self-resetting. (24.101)

IEC 60335-2-29: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric battery chargers for household and similar use having an output not exceeding 120 V ripple-free direct current


Revised the drop test to refer to IEC 60068-2-31 (21.101);


Requirements for supply cords on battery chargers used at low temperatures (25.7);


Requirements for battery chargers having an output voltage exceeding SELV have been

added (1, 3.2.2, 3.4.3, 10.101, 24.4, 25.5, 25.7, 25.8, 25.15. 26.5);


A classification for battery chargers used outdoors has been added (6.2, 29.2);


IEC 60335-2-31/A1: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric range hoods and other cooking fume extractors intended for installed above, behind or under household cooking ranges, hobs and similar cooking appliances.


Added marking and instruction requirements related to lamp used. (7.1, 7.12, 7.14, 7.15)

Added statement in instruction manual, if the range hood is only intended to be installed over a hob with no more than four hob elements. (7.12.1)

Modified heating test of lamp. (11.8)

Construction requirement when tungsten halogen lamps used. (22.104)


IEC 60335-2-68/A1: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electrical portable, non-self-propelled motor-operated spray extraction machines intended for commercial indoor use.

Subclause 15.2 added exemptions to the test. Removed subclause 20.101. Deleted cord information of 60245 IEC 87 in subclause 25.7. Modified annex B and annex S.

EN 60335-2-3: 2016

This version of standard was based on IEC 60335-2-3: 2012 with modifications. This standard deals with the safety of electric dry irons and steam irons for household and similar purposes. Dow is 2018-10-05.

Clause 7.1, the appliance shall be marked with “CAUTION: Hot surface” or the symbol IEC 60417-5041 where applicable.

Clause 7.12, add warning in instruction manual, keep the iron and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years of age when it is energized or cooling down.

Clause 11, table Z101 – maximum temperature rises for external surfaces under normal operating conditions.

Clause 20.1, revised the test angle to 15°

Clause 22.Z101 the free length of the supply cord shall be more than 1.9m.

EN60335-2-8/A1: 2016

This standard was based on IEC 60335-2-8/A1: 2015 with modifications. This standard deals with the safety of electric shaves, hair clippers and similar appliances intended for household and similar purposes.

Major change is the requirement of supply cord length is not applicable to battery charging units.

EN 60335-2-14/A12: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric kitchen machines for household and similar purposes. This documents supplements or modifies EN 60335-2-14/A11: 2012 to align with current version of EN 60335-1. Dow of this amendment is 2018-12-14.

Clause 7.10 modification: the accessible switch required by 22.40 shall be distinguished from other manual devices.

EN 60335-2-15: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of electric appliances for heating liquids for household and similar purposes. This standard modifies the texts of IEC 60335-2-15:2012. Dow of this standard is 2018-10-12.

EN 60335-2-25/A2: 2016

This standard deals with the safety of microwave ovens for household and similar use. This standard is based on IEC 60335-2-25: 2010/A2: 2015 without any modification. Dow of this standard is 2018-12-28.
